The CDC recommends annual STD screening for all sexually active women 25 years old and younger and for sexually active women older than 25 years if they have a recent new partner or multiple partners. If you think you may have been exposed to an STD, it is also important to get tested. Many STDs can present without any symptoms, and it is possible to spread these infections without knowing you are infected. It is important that any woman considering abortion be tested for STDs even if they are not experiencing any symptoms to ensure that there are no possible complications. The Women’s Center Illiana offers free, confidential testing and treatment to women for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea (certain criteria apply).
